Signed for by "Safe Location"!

On December 17 2014 I was notified in an email from UKMail that consignment #40854690000055 would be delivered to me. As I was unsure that I would be at home during the forecast delivery slot, I used UKMail's online facilities to request that the consignment be left in my garage. As the parcel had to be signed for, I was required to print out and sign a form to be left in my garage for the driver.

I was in fact at home during the delivery time slot. No one rang my doorbell or knocked. At the end of the period I went to retrieve my parcel from the garage, but there was none and the form I had signed was still lying on the floor of the garage. I checked the status of my consignment on UKMail's website and discovered that it was allegedly already delivered, having been left in my porch.

I used UKMail's online contact form to report that nothing had been delivered and received an email whose entire content was:

"Your consignment 40854690000055 has been delivered. It was signed for on 17/12/14 at 14:50 by Secure Location"

I pointed out via the contact form that that claim was both false and ridiculous, but received in reply only an email stating that my case had been closed. In an attempt to reopen my case, I emailed both customerconcerns@ukmail.com and t_hodges@ukmail.com (the address shown on UKMail's website for dealing with complaints), but did not receive a reply. I have asked to see a copy of the signature provided by Mr Location, but that has not been provided either.

I then sent a letter to UKMail's CEO with a copy to UK Mail Communications Centre, in which I explained the circumstances of my case. In response I received an email from an employee who stated that this area was not in fact her responsibility, but, as the complaint had landed on her desk, she had forwarded my complaint to the delivery depot manager with a request that s/he contact me directly. The only result of her action was that I received yet another email stating that my case had been closed once again.

I emailed her that the case had simply been closed and she replied that she would again escalate the case to the depot manager. I replied to her that I considered this to be a case of theft and would report it to the police. I also informed t_hodges@ukmail.com of my intention.

I did then report the matter to the police and contacted the female employee above and t_hodges requesting a copy of the signature, as the police had advised me. I have heard no more from UKMail.
